The Old Quarter of Al-Ghafat, located in Bahla within Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, is a historical village reflecting traditional Omani architecture. Comprising small houses for villagers and larger complexes for sheikhs, the area features a central mosque and a school where the sheikh’s children once studied the Quran. Although abandoned since the late 1960s, the structures remain relatively preserved, offering insights into past lifestyles. The village’s authenticity was captured in the British documentary “Oman: The Land Where Time Stood Still.” Visitors can explore its narrow alleys and mudbrick buildings, experiencing a tangible connection to Oman’s rich heritage.
