Taqah Fort is a historic fortress located in the town of Taqah in Dhofar Governorate, Oman. Built in the 19th century from local limestone known as “Taqah stone,” the fort served as a defensive stronghold to protect the region from invaders. It consists of two main floors: the ground floor housed storage rooms and soldiers’ quarters, while the upper floor included the governor’s residence and meeting hall. Restored in the 1990s, Taqah Fort now functions as a cultural center showcasing traditional crafts and local heritage. It is a popular tourist attraction that reflects the rich history of Dhofar.
